Frontend Intern

Join CareSwift as a Frontend Engineering Intern and help build the future of emergency medical documentation. This is a paid internship opportunity perfect for students or recent graduates passionate about using technology to make a real impact in healthcare.
You'll work directly with our engineering team on production features that EMS providers use every day. This isn't a "fetch coffee and make copies" internship - you'll be writing code that ships to thousands of users, participating in design reviews, and learning from experienced engineers who care about your growth.
Our tech stack is modern and cutting-edge: Next.js 14, TypeScript, Tailwind CSS, and more. You'll learn best practices for building accessible, performant web applications while working on meaningful healthcare technology.
The ideal candidate is curious, eager to learn, and excited about the intersection of technology and healthcare. You should be comfortable asking questions, receiving feedback, and iterating quickly. Most importantly, you should care about building products that help save lives.
What you'll do
- Build and ship React components using Next.js 14 and TypeScript
- Implement responsive designs using Tailwind CSS that work seamlessly across devices
- Collaborate with designers to bring Figma mockups to life with pixel-perfect accuracy
- Write clean, maintainable code following established patterns and best practices
- Participate in code reviews and learn from feedback
- Debug and fix issues reported by users or QA testing
- Contribute to our component library and design system
- Work with REST APIs to display and update data
- Learn about accessibility standards and implement WCAG-compliant interfaces
- Participate in sprint planning and daily standups
- Document your code and contribute to technical documentation
- Shadow senior engineers on complex features and architecture decisions
What we're looking for
- Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field
- Strong foundation in HTML, CSS, and JavaScript
- Experience with React and modern JavaScript (ES6+)
- Basic understanding of Git and version control
- Familiarity with responsive web design principles
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work independently in a remote environment
- Available for 20-40 hours per week for the duration of the internship
- Genuine interest in healthcare technology and making a positive impact
Nice to have
- Experience with TypeScript
- Familiarity with Next.js or other React frameworks
- Knowledge of Tailwind CSS or utility-first CSS frameworks
- Previous internship or project experience
- Contributions to open source projects
- Experience with Figma or other design tools
- Understanding of web accessibility standards
- Experience with state management (Redux, Zustand, etc.)
- Knowledge of testing frameworks (Jest, React Testing Library)
- Personal projects demonstrating frontend skills
